Dr Paul Horan

I am an adult Consultant Cardiologist based in Antrim Area Hospital. I became a Consultant in 2009 and have been Clinical Lead for cardiology in the Nothern Trust since 2012.

I trained primarily in Northern Ireland and spent some time also in the Royal Brompton Hospital in London.

I deal with all aspects of general cardiology (in patients >16 years) both in patient and outpatient. This would include all the common cardiology conditions such as heart attacks, heart failure, high blood pressure, atrial fibillation and other cardiac arrhythmias, inherited cardiac conditions, aortic problems and valve diseases.

In out patients I would investigate patients with chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, dizziness, loss of conciousness, ankle swelling and cardiac screening for various inherited cardiac conditions.

In addition to being a general cardiologist I sub specialise in cardiac imaging including ECHO, transoephageal ECHO, cardiac MRI and myocardial perfusion imaging.

Away from medicine my main personal interests are sport, particulary now running (I still train regularly and even compete!). Previously I played many other sports but particularly soccer. I enjoy travel and music (listening and now learning to play). I am a naturally outgoing person and enjoy the interactions with patients and socialising with family and friends.

And finally I am married and am fortunate to have twins.
