Professor Aaron Peace is a Consultant Cardiologist based in Ireland and Northern Ireland. He practises privately at Kingsbridge Private Hospital and subspecialises in Interventional Cardiology, with a particular interest in complex stent implantation procedures. He is also Director of Research and Development at the Western Health and Social Care Trust and Visiting Professor at the Ulster University Personalised Medicine Centre within the Ulster University School of Medicine.
Following his medical training at Queen’s University Belfast, Professor Peace worked at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney before completing higher specialist training in Cardiology in Dublin. During this period, he was awarded a Health Research Board Clinical Fellowship and completed a PhD in platelet biology. He later undertook subspecialty training in Interventional Cardiology at the Cardiovascular Centre OLV in Aalst, Belgium.
After returning to Northern Ireland, Professor Peace helped establish Primary PCI services to provide 24-hour access to emergency heart attack treatment across Northern Ireland. In 2016, he also helped extend the service to Donegal through a cross-border cardiology initiative.
His clinical interests include coronary artery disease, heart failure, cardiac rhythm disturbances, valvular heart disease and hypertension. He also performs right and left heart catheterisation, stent implantation (PCI), intravascular imaging procedures, rotational atherectomy, intravascular lithotripsy, temporary pacing and pericardiocentesis.
Alongside his clinical work, Professor Peace is actively involved in research, digital health and medical governance. He is Chair of the Honest Broker Governance Committee and Co-Chair of the Northern Ireland Trusted Research Environment Steering Committee. He is also a member of the Editorial Board of the European Heart Journal – Digital Health and the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions Innovations and Digital Cardiology Committee. He has authored around 100 peer-reviewed publications and has received research grants and awards nationally and internationally.
