Dr Nikos Malliaropoulos is a Consultant in Sports and Exercise Medicine based in central London with over 37 years of experience.
I currently serve as Consultant and Associate Professor in Sports and Exercise
Medicine at Queen Mary University of London Medical School, at the Bart's
Health NHS Trust Sports Clinic, and the London Independent Hospital ,Circle Health.
Throughout my career, I have integrated clinical practice, research, and teaching. My
focus is on diagnosing, managing, and rehabilitating sports injuries and
musculoskeletal conditions. Since 2010, I have gained extensive experience in
musculoskeletal ultrasonography and interventional procedures. My main areas of
expertise include muscle, tendon, and bone stress injuries, particularly those
affecting the shoulder, knee, ankle, and low back pain. I utilise conservative
treatments such as specific exercise prescription, ultrasound-guided injections, extracorporeal, shock wave therapy (ESWT), low-level laser therapy (LLLT).
From 1986 to 2019, I directed the Sports Medicine Clinic for the Hellenic National
Track and Field Association in Thessaloniki and served as Chief Medical Officer
for the Hellenic Olympic Team at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
I am a Fellow of the UK Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine and a founding
member of the European College of Sports and Exercise Physicians (ECOSEP),
where I serve as General Secretary. I am also a Fellow of the International
Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS).
My sports medicine career began after competing as a Balkan Judo Champion and
coaching Judo. As Head Coach of Aris Thessaloniki’s Judo Team, we achieved
major medals at the European Club Championships in 2017, 2019, and 2023. I hold
a 7th DAN IJF rank in Judo.
