Dr. Arfon Powell

Dr. Arfon Powell is a highly accomplished Consultant General Surgeon and Consultant Oesophagogastric Surgeon who provides expert surgical care for patients facing a wide range of abdominal and upper gastrointestinal conditions. Dedicated to delivering compassionate and individualised treatment, Dr. Powell combines evidence-based medical practices with advanced operative techniques. His practice encompasses emergency and elective General Surgery, with a primary focus on improving patient outcomes through tailored, high-standard surgical management.

Dr. Powell specialises in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) keyhole procedures designed to minimise postoperative pain and promote efficient recovery. His specific areas of clinical interest include the management of upper gastrointestinal disorders such as severe acid reflux, complex hiatus hernias, achalasia, and gallstones. In addition to keyhole surgery, Dr. Powell performs advanced endoscopic interventions, including upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, endoscopic dilatation, and stent insertion for the treatment of complex gastrointestinal strictures.

Dr. Powell graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine from the University of Aberdeen in 2007, later earning a Master of Science in Surgical Science from the University of Edinburgh in 2011 alongside a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). He completed higher surgical training within the Wales Deanery before undertaking two specialised fellowships focused on advanced minimally invasive techniques for complex upper gastrointestinal conditions.
