Dr Andrew James Carmichael

Dr Andrew James Carmichael is an accomplished Consultant Dermatologist dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care for individuals with a broad spectrum of skin, hair, and nail conditions. Understanding the impact that skin disorders can have on physical comfort and well-being, he offers thorough diagnostic assessments and thoughtful treatment plans tailored to each individual's needs. His broad clinical interests encompass medical dermatology, general dermatological conditions, and the evaluation of complex skin disorders. Dr Carmichael has a particular focus on genodermatoses, which are inherited genetic skin conditions, as well as inflammatory skin diseases and the diagnosis and management of skin tumours and contact dermatitis. Through precise diagnostic techniques, such as patch testing and clinical evaluations, he works closely with patients to identify triggers, manage symptoms, and implement effective long-term care plans.

Dr Carmichael qualified with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB BS) from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1982. Following his graduation, he completed extensive specialist medical training, serving as a Registrar in Dermatology in Birmingham and subsequently as a Senior Registrar in Dermatology in Cardiff. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) and holds active memberships with key professional bodies, including serving as a past president of the North of England Dermatological Society and as an honorary member of the British Society for Medical Dermatology.
