Dr Amanda Friend

Dr Amanda Friend is a dedicated Consultant Paediatric Oncologist and Paediatrician who provides expert, compassionate care for children and young people. Focusing on the comprehensive management of childhood cancers and general paediatric conditions, Dr Friend works closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver individualised care plans tailored to the unique physical and emotional needs of young patients and their families. Her clinical approach combines advanced medical knowledge with a reassuring, supportive manner to ensure that young patients feel safe throughout their care journey.

Dr Friend completed her initial medical studies at the University of Aberdeen, graduating with a First Class Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences (Pharmacology) in 2008 before completing her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB). She expanded her postgraduate training by earning a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Research Skills and a Master of Science in Paediatrics and Child Health. Alongside her clinical research focus on the late effects of childhood cancer treatments, Dr Friend holds professional membership as a Member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.

Her clinical practice spans a broad range of paediatric services, with focused expertise in the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term follow-up of childhood oncological conditions. Dr Friend has a particular clinical interest in solid tumours, the administration of systemic anti-cancer therapies, and supporting the overall mental health and well-being of paediatric patients undergoing treatment.
