Dr Alan Ashworth is an anaesthetist.
Dr Ashworth's research has focused on understanding cancer genetics and applying his findings to patient care. A key part of the team that identified the BRCA2 breast cancer susceptibility gene, his research has been instrumental in the development of PARP inhibitors as targeted therapies.
Dr Ashworth is a member of the Academy of Medical Sciences and a Fellow of the Royal Society.
