    About

Ajoy Bardhan is a Consultant Dermatologist at The Priory Hospital, Edgbaston. He trained in London, Cambridge and the West Midlands prior to being appointed a consultant at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB), home to one of the largest and busiest specialist dermatology departments in the country. He prides himself on providing an affable and accessible approach to addressing skin complaints, regardless of severity, via prompt and accurate diagnosis followed by the initiation of effective, evidence-based treatment.

    BACKGROUND

Ajoy read medicine at Imperial College London, intercalating with a degree in Haematological sciences. Postgraduate training in general medicine ensued at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, followed by a move to the West Midlands to pursue specialist training in Dermatology. He undertook a fellowship in the half-national highly specialised Epidermolysis Bullosa service at UHB, where he was subsequently appointed as a consultant in 2019. His general medical dermatology clinics cover a broad spectrum of presentations (see below), encompassing severe inflammatory skin disease, as well as clinics for specialist assessment of skin lesions and cutaneous surgery.

    ACADEMIC INTERESTS

He is an active member of the Dermatology Research Group at the University of Birmingham, focussed upon the rare inherited skin fragility syndromes collectively known as Epidermolysis Bullosa. He is interested in ensuring fundamental scientific exploration at the bench-to-bedside interface (and vice versa) translates to personalised patient-centred care that is underpinned by robust cutting-edge evidence, and particularly enjoys contributing to local, regional, national and international dermatological discourse. He has been invited to lecture and present to undergraduate and postgraduate audiences internationally, has sat upon nationally co-ordinated appointment panels for aspiring dermatology registrars, is an accredited educational supervisor for dermatology trainees, and is now a member of the question setting group for the national dermatology specialty certification exam.

    LEADERSHIP ROLES

His clinical and research interests are complemented by serving as local departmental lead for clinical governance, past membership of the regional genomic rare disease advisory board, and by ongoing membership of the national British Association of Dermatologists’ committees for Therapeutics & Guidelines (T&G) and Genetic Medicine (BADGEM). Additionally, he serves as secretary for the Midlands Dermatology Society.

    Patient seen for:
It was an absolute pleasure visiting Dr.Bardhan. His explanation about the skin condition was very clear and his diagnosis is top notch. Just a day using his suggested medications and it worked wonders. I am so glad to fall in Dr.Bardhan's hand in the right time and would highly recommend him to anyone with skin conditions.

Excellent - he took his time to explain the condition so that I could understand. As someone who is sight-impaired, this was greatly appreciated.
