Dr. Syed Hassan

Dr. Syed Hassan is a Consultant Chest Physician with dual specialist accreditation in Respiratory Medicine & Internal Medicine with tertiary experience in Sleep Medicine. He works as a substantive consultant at East Kent NHS Trust covering Kent and Canterbury Hospital and William Harvey Hospital Ashford, where he leads the lung cancer diagnostic service and Co-Chairs Lung Cancer MDM at William Harvey. He privately sees patients at KIMS Hosptial, Spencer Private Hospitals and Benenden Hospital, bringing over a decade of expertise in respiratory and sleep care to his patients.

Dr. Hassan is skilled in many advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS), EUS-B, bronchoscopy, medical thoracoscopy, diagnostic thoracic ultrasound, insertion and removal of indwelling pleural catheters (IPC/PleurX) / chest drains, as well as performing ultrasound-guided procedures.

Dr. Hassan received his specialist training in Respiratory, Sleep and Internal Medicine across renowned institutions in London and the Southeast, including Nottingham University Hospital, Guy’s Hospital (Lung Cancer , Airway diseases and Sleep Medicine) , and St Thomas’s Hospital (Critical Care, Pleural Diseases)  His training included rotations at Harefield Hospital (lung transplantation), and King’s College Hospital, (cystic fibrosis).  He has also worked in Maidstone Hospital and Medway Maritime Hospital.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Hassan has held multiple educational roles, including being a Clinical Lecturer, Clerkship Director, and Associate Professor of Medicine . He serves as an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and holds professional qualifications in Clinical Research, Medical Education, and Clinical Leadership.

Dr. Hassan’s expertise and contributions to the field have been recognised by leading institutions, earning him Fellowships from the American College of Chest Physicians, the College of Physicians & Surgeons Glasgow, and the College of Physicians of London.

He is also a member of the Academy of Medical Educators UK, the Pleural Society UK, the British Thoracic Society, and the British Medical Association.
