Dr Susan Stevenson is a highly qualified Consultant Plastic Surgeon with dedicated expertise in reconstructive plastic surgery and hand surgery. She provides comprehensive care for adult and paediatric patients requiring restorative surgical interventions, ranging from acute trauma management to complex long-term conditions. Dr Stevenson completed her undergraduate medical training, obtaining her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB) degree, before undertaking advanced surgical training in plastic surgery across Manchester, Yorkshire, and the North East of England. Demonstrating a strong commitment to academic research and healthcare standards, she earned a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) researching wound healing, as well as a Master of Laws (LLM) in Medical Law. She further enhanced her clinical skills through sub-specialist Fellowships in Hand Surgery and Microsurgery, completed both nationally and internationally in Sydney, Australia. Dr Stevenson holds the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Plastic Surgery, FRCS (Plast), and the Diploma in Hand Surgery from the British Society for Surgery of the Hand. A recognised leader in surgical education, she has served as a Training Programme Director and an examiner for the Royal College exit examinations, while actively contributing as a council representative for the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS).
In her clinical practice, Dr Stevenson addresses a broad spectrum of plastic and reconstructive conditions, with a specialised focus on hand and upper limb surgery. Her clinical expertise encompasses the management of acute hand injuries, nerve decompression procedures such as carpal tunnel release, surgical treatments for Dupuytren's disease, peripheral nerve repairs, and reconstructive procedures for children born with congenital hand deformities. Working alongside multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams, she also develops specialist surgical pathways for upper limb spasticity management and remains actively engaged in national clinical trials to advance patient outcomes in reconstructive surgery.
