Dr Sumana Chatterjee

Dr Sumana Chatterjee is a highly accomplished Consultant Paediatrician and Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist and Diabetologist dedicated to delivering compassionate, expert medical care for infants, children, and young people. Specialising in general Paediatrics alongside Paediatric Endocrinology and Paediatric Diabetes, she focuses on diagnosing and managing complex growth, hormonal, and metabolic conditions. Dr Chatterjee works collaboratively with young patients and their families to establish tailored, holistic care plans that promote long-term health, physical development, and emotional well-being.

Her clinical practice encompasses a wide spectrum of paediatric endocrine and metabolic disorders. Dr Chatterjee possesses focused expertise in assessing growth and puberty variations, pituitary and adrenal gland disorders, thyroid conditions, and hypoglycaemia. She is deeply involved in managing paediatric diabetes, overseeing continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion therapy, type 1 and type 2 diabetes care, and acute diabetic ketoacidosis management. Additionally, her areas of clinical interest include paediatric weight management, hypothalamic obesity, Turner syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome, and complex bone and calcium disorders.

Dr Chatterjee earned her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Calcutta before undertaking rigorous postgraduate clinical training in Paediatrics. She completed her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at Queen Mary University of London, conducting advanced research into genotype-phenotype relationships in children with growth hormone insensitivity. She is a Member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH) and actively engages in specialist clinical networks, including the British Society for Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes.
