Dr Stephen Owens

Dr Stephen Owens is a Consultant Paediatrician specialising in Paediatric Infectious Diseases and Immunology. Dedicated to delivering compassionate, patient-centred care, Dr Owens works closely with young patients and their families to diagnose and treat complex medical conditions. His practice covers a broad scope of childhood illnesses, with a focus on severe infections, immune deficiency disorders, and global health conditions.

Dr Owens earned his medical degree from the University of Edinburgh Medical School in 1998. He subsequently completed general professional training in paediatrics across Glasgow and Edinburgh before undertaking further specialised research and training in tropical paediatrics in Liverpool, London, and The Gambia. He completed higher clinical training in Paediatric Infectious Diseases and Immunology in 2013. Dr Owens holds a Master of Tropical Paediatrics and a PhD, and he is a Member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. He also serves as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer and Associate Fellow at Newcastle University.

In his clinical work, Dr Owens provides expert assessment and treatment for children presenting with severe or unusual infections, such as paediatric tuberculosis. He manages conditions relating to primary immunodeficiencies and provides comprehensive care for paediatric patients undergoing stem cell and bone marrow transplantation. In addition to his hospital-based clinical duties, Dr Owens has extensive experience in outbreak response and international emergency medicine, while also supervising postgraduate clinical training and global health research projects.
