About Dr Siva Mahendran
Dr Siva Mahendran is a leading Consultant Physician in Respiratory and Internal Medicine. He has been based at Kingston and Cobam Day Hospitals since 2017 where he provides clinical leadership in Asthma, Respiratory Research as well as in Pleural disorders & ultrasound guided interventions. He is the Trust Chair for Medicines Management and uses this position as well as his experience to oversee numerous patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.
Dr Mahendran qualified in Medicine at University College London and has been on the specialist register for Respiratory Medicine since 2017. He trained at London’s leading hospitals including the Hammersmith, Royal Brompton, Guys and St Thomas' and Kings College Hospitals. Dr Mahendran has trained in both scientific and clinical research leading to the award of a PhD in Respiratory Immunology. He was the lead researcher for Covid-19 trials at Kingston Hospital including the ground-breaking Recovery trial and continues to provide expert guidance to other clinical teams and committees in this and other areas. He has advanced training in bronchoscopy and ultrasound guided pleural procedures and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians where he is also an Examiner in post-graduate exams.

Dr Mahendran goes beyond the norm with patient care and is backed up by a wonderful secretary. He is very skilled and has a fantastic bedside manner which gives one great confidence. He explains very thoroughly what he is proposing to do. I always felt in safe hands.

I do not like reviewing physicians as I do not believe it is fair to them being reviewed by someone that knows nothing about their science. I can only review the service and the end result and in this case both were exceptional. I was referred to a respiratory specialist by my GP. I have had blocked nose for the last 3 months and discovered that even at times when my nose was unblocked I was still unable to breathe. I visited Dr. Mahendran who did everything he could to reassure me that the condition of my lungs was ok and rule out any other condition. Dr.Mahendran spotted that my breathing pattern was irregular and recommended breathing exercises with a physiotherapist. This worked wonders! After 3 months I am now able to breathe and all thanks to Dr. Mahendean. Who knew we can forget how to breathe? The reason I decided to leave this review is that before Dr. Mahendran I had seen 3 ENT specialists and 2 GP who prescribed treatment after treatment but were unable to point out what Dr.Mahendran spotted after 2 minutes.
My husband and I found Dr. Mahendran an extremely polite, competent and resourceful practitioner, who listens before he advises. He gave various possibilities on how to best handle my husband’s COPD, and he fully understood the difficulties some of these options presented. After only three consultations, we saw positive results, and we therefore recommend Dr. Mahendran wholeheartedly.
Dr Mahendran was very welcoming, articulate and clear and had a superb manner. He explained things very clearly with superb communication.
Extremely sensitive to my condition & in prescribing new treatment. Very thorough explaining everything in great detail. Also excellent in answering my follow up questions Definately a five star experience.
