Dr Israa Al-Shakarchi

Dr Israa Al-Shakarchi is a highly experienced consultant rheumatologist with over a decade of consultant-level experience in diagnosing and treating a wide range of rheumatological conditions. She is widely recognised for her patient-centred approach, clear communication, and commitment to delivering personalised, evidence-based care.

Her expertise covers all aspects of general rheumatology, including inflammatory arthritis, crystal arthritis (such as gout and pseudogout), connective tissue diseases, vasculitis, inflammatory muscle diseases, osteoporosis, and soft tissue conditions. She also has advanced skills in joint and soft tissue injections, having led the rheumatology injection clinic at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for several years.

Dr Al-Shakarchi graduated in Medicine from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 2004 and holds a BSc (Hons) in Physiology from University College London. In 2010, she completed a Master's degree in Rheumatology with distinction at King’s College London, receiving the prize for best research project. She has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented her work at major international rheumatology conferences.

She completed her specialist training in London, working at some of the UK’s leading teaching hospitals, including King’s College Hospital, Guy’s and St Thomas’, and St George’s. In 2014, she was appointed as a substantive Consultant Rheumatologist at Kingston Hospital. Alongside her clinical practice, she has held senior roles in medical education and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2018.
