About Dr. Simon Phillpotts
Dr Simon Phillpotts is a consultant in Gastroenterology at both University College London Hospital and Royal Free London Hospital in North London. His expertise includes general gastroenterology and endoscopy, with a special interest in pancreatobiliary medicine.
Having qualified at St George’s University of London in 2010, he completed his Gastroenterology training across North London. This training has enabled him to work in London’s top hospitals, with a breadth of experience in general gastroenterology, hepatology, Upper GI Gastroenterology, Inflammatory bowel disease, nutrition and Pancreatobiliary medicine. Fellowships followed at both University College London Hospital and Royal London Hospital.
His practice covers a broad range of endoscopy procedures, including Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy, as well as more advanced techniques such as ERCP, cholangioscopy and Endoscopic Ultrasound.
His specialist interest lies in the care of patients with acute and chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cystic lesions, bile duct diseases, and the evaluation of suspected pancreatobiliary malignancy. He was the lead author on a regional pathway for the management of pancreatic cystic lesions, and established a supra-regional network for the management of patients with acute pancreatitis.
With numerous Gastroenterology publications to his name, his research interests centre on the endoscopic management of bile duct and pancreatic diseases. Education is another passion — having obtained a PG Cert in medical education at QMUL, he is regularly involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, particularly on endoscopy training courses.
