Mr Simon Harrison is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in Hand and Wrist Surgery at Spire Shawfair Park Hospital and Spire Murrayfield Hospital. After completing his medical degree at the University of Dundee, Mr Harrison embarked on specialised orthopaedic surgical training in Yorkshire. He received the fellowship in trauma and orthopaedic surgery in 2017 from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Subsequently, he successfully completed two years of specialised hand and wrist fellowships. The first fellowship took place in Teesside, UK, followed by another at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand. Notably, Mr Harrison's hand surgery training was conducted by accomplished hand surgeons with backgrounds in both orthopaedic and plastic surgery, providing him exposure to techniques from both disciplines.
Upon the completion of these fellowships, Mr Harrison assumed the role of a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at NHS Fife in 2019. In this capacity, he specialises in adult hand and wrist conditions. His surgical practice revolves around the treatment of elective hand and wrist conditions, including cases such as carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger digit, and Dupuytren's disease. Additionally, he handles cases of hand and wrist trauma as well as complications arising from trauma. Collaborating closely with a team of professional colleagues, Mr Harrison develops and implements focused treatment plans for his patients.
Within his NHS role, Mr Harrison actively engages in the training of higher surgical trainees and has contributed to the teaching of several courses related to hand and wrist surgery. He maintains a regular presence at the congresses organised by the British and European Hand Surgical Societies, ensuring he remains up-to-date with the latest advancements and developments in the field.

Mr Simon Harrison is consistently friendly and professional, putting patients at ease. He clearly explains diagnoses, treatment options, and common procedures like trigger finger treatment, Dupuytren's contracture repair, and carpal tunnel release. Patients frequently report successful results, praising his expert care, excellent communication skills, and ability to address their questions. His expertise covers a wide range of hand and wrist problems, notably carpal tunnel conditions.
Mr Harrison was incredibly knowledgeable and informative during both the consultation and the entire surgical process. He was easily contactable throughout. Since this was my first time under general anaesthetic, he put my mind at ease very early on. We thoroughly discussed the positives and negatives of the procedure. Now, just 8 weeks post-surgery, the optimum results and benefits of the surgery and aftercare are already within reach. This smooth recovery assisted me in returning to full duties at work right on schedule. I am completely satisfied with the experience, highly recommend Mr Harrison to others, and would absolutely use him again if needed
From the initial consultation through to my recovery Mr Harrison took the time to explain the procedure clearly, asked if I had any questions, and ensured I felt comfortable throughout the process which helped massively with my nerves. The care and attention I received were exceptional and even the recovery and follow up appointment.
Very supportive and informative and followed up on promises
I was extremely pleased with the care I was given from diagnosis right through to my hand surgery and aftercare.
The key point for me, was to be comfortable that my surgeon had the professional experience of my type of operation and Mr Harrison gave me full confidence.
Was put at ease immediately with a very friendly attitude. Straightforward chat and very informative. Left feeling completely happy with the outcome.
Simon has been extremely helpful and courteous throughout the whole process of diagnosing and treating the root cause of my wrist pain. He clearly explained all of the options available to help alleviate symptoms and has been totally honest about likely outcomes of surgery. He was very reassuring on the day of my wrist denervation procedure (credit also to all the team at Spire Shawfair Park who were superb!) and has provided excellent follow-up advise post surgery. I feel reassured to know that Simon is there for me should I need further advise/procedures in the future.
Mr Harrison was knowledgeable, approachable and happy to take the time needed with patients. Also happy to engage with patients outside of appointments by proactively sharing contact details which helps provide reassurance and reduce anxiety.
