About Mr Samir Ali Salih

Mr Samir Salih is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising exclusively in the management of hip and knee arthritis. He holds an NHS consultant post at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Mexborough Elective Orthopaedic Centre, with additional private practice at Spire Methley Park Hospital.

Mr Salih graduated with honours from the University of Oxford in 2012 and went on to complete higher surgical training on the South Yorkshire Trauma and Orthopaedics Rotation, achieving his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in 2024. Over the years, he has gained extensive experience across all aspects of orthopaedic surgery, and in recent years has dedicated his practice solely to hip and knee replacement surgery.

He has a specialist interest in enhanced recovery pathways and day-case joint replacement surgery, enabling patients to benefit from faster rehabilitation, reduced pain and quicker return to independence. Mr Salih performs surgery using implants and techniques with strong evidence-based outcomes and proven long-term performance.

Following completion of his CCT, he undertook advanced fellowship training in revision joint replacement, complex primary hip and knee arthroplasty, and robotic-assisted joint replacement using the Stryker MAKO system.

Known for his calm, thoughtful and patient-centred approach, Mr Salih places great emphasis on shared decision-making. He ensures every patient has a clear understanding of their diagnosis, the benefits and risks of all available treatments, and the timing that best aligns with their needs and lifestyle.

Mr Salih is committed to delivering high-quality, carefully tailored care to help patients regain mobility, reduce pain and return to the activities they value.

I went into hospital, had my knee replacment. I was well looked after by all the staff and Mr Salih, and now it feels fantastic. I have just asked for Mr Salih to do my other knee replacment, and I can't wait.

Fantastic service, 8 weeks now and I am happy and back to work, last week I stacked 34 bags of wood and I am really happy with my knee. I had my other knee done at another hospital but this has gone much smoother and faster recovery. No concerns.

I was pleased with the operation and stayed awake during the operation which I enjoyed. The post operative care was really good and I have occasional niggles but it's getting better every day. I was really happy and have delivered my chocolates to the ward. I'm really happy and I'm going to have the other knee done now.

From the word go I was treated brilliant with love and care. When I went into the operating theatre I went out and didn't hear or feel anything and then I woke up with my new knee. Now I feel like I am me again and I have my MOJO back. I'm back to walking and going out, I've been back on a rowing machine. I'm going to have my other knee replaced as well.
