Mr Vivek Balachandar

Mr Vivek Balachandar is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising exclusively in knee surgery. He practises privately at Kinvara Private Hospital and is also a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, where he established a dedicated Soft Tissue Knee and Knee Preservation Service.

Mr Balachandar specialises in the management of knee injuries, arthritis and patellar instability. His expertise includes the treatment of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, meniscal injuries, cartilage disorders and knee arthritis. He regularly cares for patients with sports-related knee injuries across a range of disciplines, as well as individuals experiencing knee pain and instability affecting their everyday activities.

Mr Balachandar believes in ensuring that patients have a clear understanding of their diagnosis and treatment options. He takes an individualised approach to care, recommending non-surgical management where appropriate and offering surgery only when conservative treatments have not provided adequate relief or when symptoms significantly affect a patient's quality of life.

He graduated from Sheffield Medical School before completing his specialist orthopaedic training in Sheffield. He subsequently undertook advanced fellowship training at the Wrightington Sports Knee Unit, one of the UK's leading centres for knee surgery, where he further developed his expertise in complex knee procedures and sports injuries.

Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Balachandar is actively involved in teaching, training and research. He has presented his work nationally and internationally and has received several honours for his research, including the South Yorkshire Getty Plate for excellence in orthopaedic research. In 2023, he was selected to represent the region at the British Orthopaedic Association Best of the Best meeting.
