Dr Richard Murphy

Dr Richard Murphy is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in the diagnosis, treatment, and surgical management of shoulder and elbow conditions, as well as complex traumatic injuries. He is dedicated to helping patients regain mobility, alleviate pain, and restore upper limb function through individualised care plans. His clinical practice encompasses both non-operative management strategies and advanced surgical interventions tailored to each patient's specific needs.

Dr Murphy commenced his medical education at Cambridge University, completing pre-clinical studies alongside an intercalated degree in Management. He formally qualified in Medicine from Sheffield University Medical School in 2006. Demonstrating a strong commitment to academic advancement, he subsequently completed research at Oxford University, earning a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) in 2013. Following higher surgical training on the Bristol rotation, he completed specialist fellowship training in upper limb surgery across the United Kingdom and internationally in Switzerland. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS Orth) and a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS). Additionally, Dr Murphy maintains professional memberships with the British Orthopaedic Association and the British Elbow and Shoulder Society.

Within his daily practice, Dr Murphy provides expertise in a broad range of surgical procedures, including primary and revision shoulder replacements, primary and revision elbow replacements, and arthroscopic procedures. He also manages complex reconstructive problems, such as tendon transfers, alongside major musculoskeletal trauma. Combining surgical precision with an evidence-based approach, Dr Murphy remains actively engaged in clinical research and surgical training to ensure high standards of patient safety and care.
