Ms Riem Johnson

Ms. Riem Johnson is an experienced Orthopaedic Hand Surgeon with an impressive educational and clinical background. She studied at Leicester University and completed her surgical training in the North East of England. After a period of research in General Surgery, she was awarded a Doctorate (MD) from the University of Newcastle. She then pursued higher surgical training in Trauma & Orthopaedics, culminating in a post-CCT Hand Fellowship at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital between October 2016 and October 2017.

Following her fellowship, Ms. Johnson served as a locum hand consultant at the renowned Pulvertaft Hand Unit in Derby from October 2017 to January 2018. During this time, she earned the prestigious British Diploma of Hand Surgery (March 2018), awarded by the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH) and the University of Manchester. In April 2018, she was appointed as a substantive Orthopaedic Hand Surgeon at the Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals Trust, where she continues to practise.

In addition to her clinical work, Ms. Johnson is deeply involved in medical training and quality improvement. Since March 2019, she has served as the Clinical Governance Lead for Trauma & Orthopaedics (T&O). Her research interests remain active, with a recent collaboration with Imperial College. She is currently the Principal Investigator for an NIHR-funded randomised control trial on Dupuytren’s disease.

Ms. Johnson holds memberships with the General Medical Council, Medical Protection Society, Royal College of Surgeons of England, British Medical Association, British Orthopaedic Association, and the British Society for Surgery of the Hand.
