Dr Rajnish Attavar

Dr Rajnish Attavar is a highly respected Consultant Psychiatrist who specialises in neurodevelopmental and intellectual disability psychiatry. He provides compassionate, patient-centred care for individuals experiencing emotional, mental health, and neurodevelopmental challenges. Dr Attavar is dedicated to offering a supportive, listening ear, combining evidence-based medicine with psychodynamic approaches to help patients achieve their full potential and support their recovery. He is experienced in supporting patients from late adolescence onwards, including vulnerable individuals who may require home visits.

His clinical expertise spans a wide range of conditions, with a particular focus on neurodevelopmental disorders such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and Asperger's syndrome. Dr Attavar also provides comprehensive assessment and treatment for common mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and sleep disorders. In addition to his therapeutic work, he is an approved clinician under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act and regularly conducts mental capacity assessments, including those for Lasting Power of Attorney and Deprivation of Liberty.

Dr Attavar completed his medical training at Bangalore University, qualifying with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1996. He subsequently pursued specialist training in psychiatry, obtaining his Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) in 2002 and receiving his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Intellectual Disabilities. Throughout his career, he has been actively involved in medical education, clinical leadership, and research, serving as a Senior Visiting Research Fellow. He also holds a prominent leadership role as the Chair of the South Eastern Division of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, where he organises and chairs well-being conferences.
