Dr Rachael Barber

Dr Rachael Barber is a highly accomplished Consultant Paediatric Intensivist and Deputy Medical Director who specialises in Paediatrics and Paediatric Intensive Care. With a dedicated focus on critical care, she also serves as a Paediatric Clinical Lead for Organ Donation. Throughout her career, Dr Barber has demonstrated a profound commitment to providing exceptional care for critically ill children, combining clinical expertise with compassionate leadership to support young patients and their families during challenging times.

Her clinical interests lie in acute kidney injury, transport medicine, organ donation, and clinical leadership. Dr Barber has played a pivotal role in advancing paediatric critical care services, having previously served as a Clinical Service Unit Lead for Paediatric Critical Care. She also co-led the establishment of a regional paediatric transport service, ensuring that critically ill children receive safe and efficient transfer to specialist care. Her leadership extends to her role as Deputy Medical Director, where she helps oversee clinical standards and service delivery.

Dr Barber graduated from the University of Nottingham in 1996, earning a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery with Honours (BM BS Hons) alongside a Bachelor of Medical Sciences (B Med Sci). She completed her comprehensive paediatric training across London and Manchester, followed by specialised paediatric intensive care training in Manchester, Glasgow, and Melbourne, Australia. Dr Barber is a Member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH), reflecting her alignment with the highest standards of paediatric medicine in the United Kingdom.
