The experience was excellent from start to finish. The entire appointment, comprising specialist consultation, imaging and clinical review, was seamless and everything that you would hope for from a healthcare provider: professional, compassionate, person-centred and efficient. Professor Carmichael in particular was a wonderful clinician to have encountered. She was extremely personable and knowledgeable, taking the time to listen, explain her findings clearly and discuss the options available to me without ever making the appointment feel rushed. She immediately put me at ease and struck that rare balance of being reassuring and approachable whilst inspiring complete confidence in her clinical expertise. The wider team were equally excellent, and the transition between consultation, imaging and review was remarkably smooth. At every stage I felt informed, comfortable and genuinely cared for rather than simply moved through a process. I left the appointment feeling reassured, well informed and very grateful for the standard of care I had received. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Professor Carmichael and the breast service at Nuffield Derby.

My experience through mastectomy and breast reconstruction is that Professor Carmichael shows great empathy towards her patients making time to answer questions whilst also efficiently addressing the reasons for the appointment. I have been very happy with my treatment including my last visit.
Professor Carmichael was friendly and very professional. Took time to listen to me and was clear with explanations. This was important to me during a period of concern.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer May 2021 and Professor Carmichael has held my hand throughout the last five years. I had a mastectomy, reconstruction. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy. She is a wonderful caring doctor and explains everything in great detail so you can understand what is happening. A lot of doctors are good at their job but dont have the "bedside manner". She has it in abundance!
