Professor Swati Jha is a Subspecialist in Urogynaecology and Consultant Gynaecologist at the Jessop Wing of the Royal Hallamshire Hospital (Sheffield) and Honorary Professor at the University of Sheffield. She was appointed to this post in 2008 after completing two years of subspecialty training in urogynaecology, focusing on the management of incontinence and prolapse.
She specialises in urogynaecology (prolapse of the womb, bowel, bladder, and urinary incontinence) and general gynaecology (including period problems). She is the lead for Perineal Trauma and Paediatric Gynaecology and has an interest in vulval and perineal problems (including enlarged labia and vaginal laxity) as well as problems with painful sex.
Professor Jha provides a range of investigations and treatments related to the above problems at the Jessop Wing (NHS), Claremont Hospital, and BMI Thornbury Hospital in Sheffield. She sees both private and NHS patients (through Choose and Book).
In addition to her busy practice she is also involved in research, teaching, and training. She has more than 150 publications in a number of areas of urogynaecology and is also widely published in the area of sexual function in women with pelvic floor disorders. She has also written 3 books.
Additionally, Professor Jha provides expert evidence in clinical negligence and personal injury cases, within her area of specialisation, including perineal trauma, gynaecology, and urogynaecology.

I found her to be approachable, she explained the procedure in language that I could understand. She has a very easy manner that puts you at ease. I also found her to have a good sense of humour that I could relate too - in fact she made me laugh.

I immediately felt at ease with Professor Jha. She explained everything she was doing during my examination and gave a detailed explanation of her thoughts and findings. I honestly feel the initial consultation and follow up were the best I’ve had with a medical professional. She has such a lovely way about her. Despite not needing to go ahead with any treatment at present, she gave me lots of information to help and should my situation change or worsten I wouldn’t hesitate to go back and see her. Very happy and would definitely recommend her.

Professor Jha listened intently to all of my concerns and treated me with a great deal of empathy and sensitivity regarding a concern which was causing me a lot of distress.
