Dr Peter Rimmer

Dr Peter Rimmer is a dedicated Consultant Gastroenterologist who provides compassionate, patient-focused care across all areas of digestive and liver health. He possesses broad expertise in general gastroenterology and hepatology, with a primary clinical focus on the diagnosis and long-term management of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Dr Rimmer is committed to delivering prompt intervention and tailored therapeutic strategies, ensuring that every patient receives a personalised treatment plan tailored to their unique clinical needs.

Dr Rimmer completed his undergraduate medical education and early clinical training in the South West of England before undertaking advanced academic and specialist training in gastroenterology. He holds a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) and a Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert). Demonstrating a continuous commitment to professional excellence and medical education, Dr Rimmer is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP).

In addition to general clinical care, Dr Rimmer has a special clinical and research interest in the gut microbiome and its interaction with the intestinal immune system. His work extends to the management of complex conditions, including primary sclerosing cholangitis associated with inflammatory bowel disease, as well as advanced therapies such as faecal microbiota transplantation. Dr Rimmer also performs diagnostic and surveillance colonoscopy for bowel conditions, provides emergency care for acute gastrointestinal bleeding, and contributes to broad hepatology care, including liver transplantation services.
