Mr Nicholas Wride

Mr Nicholas Wride is an NHS consultant ophthalmologist with over 10 years of experience. He began his ophthalmology training in the north-east in 2003, developing a strong interest in cataract management and glaucoma, both common and serious eye conditions. After completing his specialist training, he worked at the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital in London for nearly two years on a Glaucoma Fellowship, before returning to the north-east as a consultant at Sunderland Eye Infirmary. Mr Wride enjoys operating and has a strong safety record, regularly being asked to manage complex cases.

In addition to his clinical work, Mr Wride is passionate about education and supports ophthalmic trainees, taking an active role in their professional development. He also has a research interest, contributing to the development of new drug treatments for glaucoma and advancements in surgical outcomes for cataract and glaucoma patients. He collaborates closely with the industry to help develop and refine safer equipment, which aims to enhance patient care and satisfaction.
