Mr Vijay Hegde

Mr Vijay Hegde Consultant Ophthalmologist, Cataract and Vitreoretinal Surgeon with two decades of experience in the field. Vijay specialises in complex cataract surgery including topical or no needle cataract surgery. He currently practices at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, and the BMI Albyn Hospital.

Vijay qualified for medicine in 1997, and undertook specialist training in retinal and cataract surgery thereafter. Vijay also gained fellowships with the Royal College of Surgeons and Royal College of Surgeons Ophthalmologists, in Aberdeen, Edinburgh Manchester and Newcastle. Vijay is known to use high quality specialist techniques, such as micro incision and intraocular lenses, thereby reducing eye glasses dependancy. He is also among the first ophthalmologists to use local anaesthetic, to enable a faster post-operative recovery. Vijay is also well respected in the research and teaching community, with various peer review published papers and presentations for surgical trainees of the Royal College of Surgeons Ophthalmologists. Mr Hedge also acts as the Regional Training Advisor for Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
