About

Mr Tim Mould is a Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist at The Princess Grace Hospital and The Portland Hospital. He specialises in the treatment of ovarian, endometrial, cervical, vulval and vaginal cancer, plus the diagnostic processes that find or prevent them. He sees women with suspicious symptoms, examination findings or abnormal tests, to provide expert diagnostic work. This includes colposcopy for women with abnormal smear tests, and seeing women with genetic issues such as BRCA gene mutations. He is part of the weekly HCA gynaecological cancer multi-disciplinary specialist team meeting. He attends the HCA sarcoma multidisciplinary team meeting for complex pelvic sarcoma surgery.

Ovarian cancer treatment has evolved over the last ten years. Mr Mould has been at the forefront of ultra-radical cytoreductive surgery for ovarian cancer. He has set up the latest development for ovarian cancer - Heated Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) at the Princess Grace for his patients.

Mr Mould has 20 years of experience in minimal access laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery for endometrial cancer. These skills can be used in some cervical cancer cases also.

Cervical and vulval cancer and precancers are a significant part of his work. Alongside his cancer work, Mr Mould ran a colposcopy and diagnostic clinic at UCLH for over 20 years. He continues this work in his clinics at the Portland Hospital. Patients with abnormal smears, postmenopausal bleeding, suspicious ovarian cysts, concerning family history, or gene abnormalities such as BRCA or Lynch syndrome can be seen rapidly.

Mr Mould was Lead Clinician for Gynaecological Oncology at University College Hospital for seven years. He led the Gynaecological Tumour Board at the North London Cancer Network, and was London Cancer Pathway Director for Gynaecological Cancers. He was Clinical Divisional Director for Women's Health at University College Hospital. He was the lead for colposcopy at UCLH for 5 years.

He has published widely on different aspects of gynaecological oncology with over 50 peer reviewed publications plus numerous chapters in text books, and his own text book on gynaecological cancer surgery.

He has been on management and steering committees of high profile national and international trials.

He is a member of The British Gynaecological Cancer Society and has been a committee member in the past. He is accredited with the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, and a member of the European Society of Gynaecological Oncologists, and the International Gynaecologic Cancer Society.

Explanation

Mr Tim Mould is the kind of consultant and surgeon one can only dream of. I have no idea where I would be right now if Mr Mould had not been in charge of my 80 year old mother's recent biopsy. To say that the man's personal qualities approach those of a Christian saint would not be an exaggeration. The man has enough compassion, understanding and kindness to make any patient, not to mention the patient's family, feel that they are in the best and safest of hands. As for his medical expertise and knowledge, from my experience of his operation on my elderly, frightened and frail mother, he is second to none. His many years of experience at the top of the medical tree and his reputation for excellence are entirely justified. I can never thank him enough for his phenomenal capacity to comprehend, at the deepest level, not only his patient's fears but also those of the patient's family, prior to the operation. Consultants cannot be chosen merely on the basis of their skills or personal qualities: they need to be chosen on the basis of both these categories. And in the case of Mr Mould, these two categories came very harmoniously together to achieve the impossible for my mother: the woman who refused to be seen by any doctor of any description, agreed to go to hospital for her biopsy purely on the strength of a telephone consultation with him. My dear mother was so taken by Mr Mr Mould's gentle and soothing manner, that she gave up her fears and allowed me to take her to hospital for her procedure. It was nothing short of a miracle. Words alone cannot describe what Mr Mould managed to achieve with my mother when we had given up all hope of getting her through the doors of a hospital. I hope that other patients will be as fortunate as my mother was in having Mr Mould in charge of their medical care. May he thrive and prosper always.
