Mr Sudipto Bhatta

Mr Sudipto Bhatta is a skilled Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon. He has more than 18 years of experience in ophthalmology and offers streamlined, personalised care for patients with eye conditions.

Mr Bhatta specialises in cataract surgery and glaucoma surgery. He offers cataract surgery, complex cataract surgery, multifocal IOL implants to correct all ranges of vision and minimise spectacle dependancy and Toric IOL implants to correct astigmatism. In glaucoma he offers Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) laser, YAG laser peripheral iridotomy, iStent injects, trabeculectomy and other complex glaucoma drainage devices.

Mr Bhatta has joinedd the ophthalmology team in Aberdeen Royal Informary in 2017. He is currently the Training Programme Director for Ophthamology juior doctors in Scotland North. He enjoys his role in teaching and training of postgraduate and undergraduate doctors immensely.

Before moving to Scotland, Mr Bhatta worked as a consultant at Hull and East Yorkshire Eye Hospitals between 2013 and 2017. In addition to his NHS commitments, Mr Bhatta has maintained his practising privileges as a consultant in the private sector since 2013, initially with Spire Hull and East Yorkshire in England before moving to BMI Albyn Hospital upon coming up to Aberdeen in 2017.

Mr Bhatta has had extensive experience in ophthalmology, completing his training in the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and then undertaking a year-long advanced subspecialty training in glaucoma at St James's University Hospital, Leeds. He also holds a Master's degree in Ophthalmology from the University of Calcutta, India. Mr Bhatta is regularly invited to give talks at regional and national meetings on various topics relating to ophthalmology and has published numerous articles in scientific journals. Under Mr Bhatta's co-leadership, the Hull department was awarded the International Glaucoma Association award for best glaucoma unit voted by UK patients in 2016.
