About Mr Rowan Connell
Mr Rowan Connell is a Consultant Gynaecologist who has been a consultant in Kent since 2003; previously training in London at Guy's, St Thomas', Queen Charlotte's and UCLH hopsitals. He was a consultant in the NHS at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Trust, and at Benenden and KIMS Hospitals. He ia a general gynaecologist treats a wide range of benign gynaecological conditions, with special interests in Urogynaecology (the treatment of urinary incontinence and prolapse), the treatment of heavy periods and Minimal Access Surgery (keyhole surgery). Well trained in these techniques, Mr Connell also maintains communication with close contacts in Europe to ensure he remains up to date with the latest techniques.
Mr Connell left the NHS in 2019 to become Medical Director at Benenden Hospaital [and laterly Chief Medical Officer of the Benenden Gtroup]. He co-leads the running of several services as a consultant in his present post. He has been the lead in setting up a laparoscopic subtotal hysterectomy ("day-case hysterectomy") service in the private sector and the NHS.
Mr Connell also enjoys teaching, setting up and running several courses, while also presenting at national and international conferences on various topics. He has also published broadly around Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

I was seen by Mr Connell some years ago through NHS and latterly saw him privately. I found him to be both charming and very professional on all occasions and had no hesitation in deciding on him to carry out my operation when the time came. He took the time to explain the procedure, answered all my questions and I felt confident and at ease with my decision. He visited the morning of the operation to check I was okay going ahead, he saw me post op outside theatre and also visited following morning prior to my discharge. I did have occasion to write to him some weeks following my operation for some advice and received a prompt reply via his secretary Michelle, who is also very charming and helpful. P.S. One of the procedures I was to have turned out not to be necessary so I got a small refund! Here I am six month post op and feeling great. I have already recommended Mr Connell to someone who has gone ahead and would have no hesitation in recommending him to others.
Going back many years he was his usual totally calm, charming and reassuring consultant self.
This is my third operation undertaken by Mr.Connell, my first at Benenden. Although I have no complaints regarding my previous experiences the whole atmosphere at Benenden was better which makes you feel comfortable and reassured and I felt confident that Mr.Connell was listening and understanding me and my situation.
Attended for surgery, everything was as expected. Now recovering at home
