Mr Richard Krysztopik is a highly experienced General and Laparoscopic Surgeon. He obtained his medical degree from Manchester University in 1988 and underwent extensive training in general surgery in the North West and South West of the UK. He also received specialised training in Louisville, USA, and South Australia, working alongside renowned experts in laparoscopic surgery, Professors David Watson and Glynn Jamieson.
His expertise in advanced laparoscopic procedures encompasses anti-reflux and hiatus hernia repair, complex gallbladder and bile duct surgery, as well as simple and complex hernia repair using minimally invasive or open techniques. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1992 and earned an MD from Manchester University in 1999. Mr Krysztopik entered the Specialist Register in 2000 and was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon at the RUH in 2002, where he has developed a wide range of skills and expertise.
Within his specialisation, Mr Krysztopik serves as a specialist upper GI Surgeon and Lead Clinician for Upper GI Cancer at the RUH. He is also part of the Upper GI surgical team at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, where he performs major resections for oesophageal and gastric cancer.
His areas of focus include anti-reflux surgery, gallbladder removal, gastrointestinal surgery, hernia surgery, laparoscopic surgery, upper GI endoscopy, minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery, operations for gallstones, abdominal wall hernia repair, gastro-oesophageal surgery, achalasia, obesity surgery, and endoscopy for oesophageal and gastric cancer.
