My overall experience at the PRACTICE PLUS GROUP HOSPITAL, SHEPTON MALLET was excellent and i could highly recommend this hospital.
I was made very comfortable and had excellent care. Everything was explained to me along the way. I was treated with respect and empathy.
As a private self pay patient I have had cataract surgery to both eyes, the left eye on 24th February 2026 and the right eye on 21st April 2026. Both operations were performed by Consultant Ophthalmologist Jonas Laursen. My initial consultation was with Mr Laursen who explained everything well and recommended which lens would best suit my needs. I am pleased to say that both operations went smoothly with no complications. Mr Laursen and all the staff in the operating theatre were very friendly and made me feel as comfortable as possible. After the surgery I did feel somewhat "hurried" by the nurses who gave me the aftercare instructions and eye drops to take home with me.

My surgery was complicated in the end but every single member of the team were amazing, so kind and caring at every stage.

I was so impressed with Practice Plus Group and all of the staff at Shepton Mallet hospital. From start to finish i felt so well looked after. The pre-op nurses were amazing at keeping me calm when I almost passed out and spent time talking to me to take my mind off things. Mark Tomlinson, the surgeon was superb and the whole theatre team including the anesthatist and the nurses who made me feel very safe and comfortable. Also everything was triple checked so no mistakes could be made and strict pre-op rules so no risks taken. Would highly recommend.
Experience was ok, no different from NHS treatment. However much longer recovery time, would have been better if I had felt there was someone I could have spoken to about my concerns.
