Professor Nick Strouthidis

Professor Nick Strouthidis is a highly experienced Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon based at Moorfields Eye Hospital and King Edward VII Hospital. He has a specialist interest in glaucoma, as well as cataract surgery. He is also Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology within the Discipline of Clinical Ophthalmology and Eye Health at the University of Sydney, Australia. He has held a number of distinguished leadership roles including Director of the Glaucoma Service at Moorfields and Executive Medical Director of Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He has served as a Trustee of Glaucoma UK and Moorfields Eye Charity and on the Editorial Boards of Current Eye Research and the British Journal of Ophthalmology. He maintains an active research interest in optic nerve head imaging in glaucoma as well as in clinical trials of glaucoma surgical interventions. 

Clinical Expertise

Professor Strouthidis has a worldwide reputation in the interpretation of imaging tests in the diagnosis and monitoring of glaucoma. His practice covers the full range of adult glaucoma but he also has a particular expertise in the surgical management of complex glaucoma cases. He is the glaucoma specialist attached to the national Osteo-odonto-keratoprosthesis service, as well as the Moorfields keratoprosthesis service. He is highly experienced in the medical, surgical and laser management of all types of glaucoma. He also carries out cataract surgery, with particular emphasis on patients with glaucoma.   

Training

He completed his medical degree at the University of London (Guy's and St Thomas's Hospitals) in 1997 and underwent his ophthalmology training at St Thomas's Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital. During his training he completed two research doctorates (an MD and PhD), both at UCL. He subsequently worked as a post-doctoral fellowship at the Optic Nerve Head Research Laboratory at Devers Eye Instute, Portland, Oregon, USA. He completed subspecialty fellowship training in glaucoma at Moorfields Eye Hospital and was appointed as a consultant to the Moorfields Glaucoma service in 2012.
