Mr Muti Abulafi is a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at Croydon University Hospital (CUH).
He has more than 30 years of experience in the field, with a special interest in colorectal cancer. He is the current lead of the cancer multidisciplinary team at CUH and previously served as Director of Cancer Services for 8 years. He also serves as the chair of the Colorectal Cancer Pathway Group of the Royal Marsden Partners Accountable Cancer Network.

Mr Abulafi earned his fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS) in 1988 after studying medicine at the University of Cairo. He later received a Master of Surgery (MS) degree from the University of London for his work on the role of intraoperative photodynamic treatment in colorectal cancer. He went on to undertake surgical training at the Royal London and St Thomas' Hospitals before joining CUH as a consultant in 1996.
Mr Abulafi has previously served on the Clinical Board of the London Cancer Alliance, the London Early Diagnosis Implementation Group, and the London Endoscopy Strategy Sub-group. Additionally, he has been a member of the London Zone Cancer Peer Review reference group, the cancer project Expert Reference Panel for Common Cancers and General Care, and the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland's research and audit committee.
He is widely published in the fields of colorectal cancer and cancer genetics and is the principal investigator for the NICE FIT study, investigating the function of the FIT test in colorectal cancer. He also established and co-convened the annual M25 Colorectal Masterclass for trainee surgeons.

I cannot recommend Dr Abulafi highly enough. He carried out my colonoscopy and endoscopy and was exceptional throughout. What really sets him apart is that he always comes to see you personally after the procedure to explain his findings clearly and calmly, so you are not left worrying while waiting for the written report. Nothing is ever too much trouble, and he takes the time to answer all questions thoroughly and reassuringly. He is an excellent consultant – kind, professional, and extremely patient-focused. I felt completely listened to and well cared for at every stage.
