About Mr Muti Abulafi
Mr Muti Abulafi is a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at Croydon University Hospital (CUH).
He has more than 30 years of experience in the field, with a special interest in colorectal cancer. He is the current lead of the cancer multidisciplinary team at CUH and previously served as Director of Cancer Services for 8 years. He also serves as the chair of the Colorectal Cancer Pathway Group of the Royal Marsden Partners Accountable Cancer Network.

Mr Abulafi earned his fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS) in 1988 after studying medicine at the University of Cairo. He later received a Master of Surgery (MS) degree from the University of London for his work on the role of intraoperative photodynamic treatment in colorectal cancer. He went on to undertake surgical training at the Royal London and St Thomas' Hospitals before joining CUH as a consultant in 1996.
Mr Abulafi has previously served on the Clinical Board of the London Cancer Alliance, the London Early Diagnosis Implementation Group, and the London Endoscopy Strategy Sub-group. Additionally, he has been a member of the London Zone Cancer Peer Review reference group, the cancer project Expert Reference Panel for Common Cancers and General Care, and the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland's research and audit committee.
He is widely published in the fields of colorectal cancer and cancer genetics and is the principal investigator for the NICE FIT study, investigating the function of the FIT test in colorectal cancer. He also established and co-convened the annual M25 Colorectal Masterclass for trainee surgeons.

I was able to get an appointment quickly, the consultation was thorough and a course of action agreed. The procedures required were carried out in a timely manner and results conveyed clearly and promptly. It was much less stressful than anticipated and, most important, I was listened to.
Mr Abulafi has been my surgeon for three years and I can’t stress enough how well he has looked after me. He’s always kind and open and he manages to answer even the most complicated questions in a clear and reassuring way. Having surgery is always a worrying time but Mr Abulafi’s kindness and understanding make it much easier. I would highly recommend him.
He is a really lovely Doctor he gave me an examination and told me that I had a rectocele. He explained it all and referred me to Dr Sultan for further advise. Very pleased
Mr Abulafi is very understanding and always does his best to explain what is needed and how it will be achieved. I am still under his care as he continues to move forward with my treatment and I know I am in safe hands.
After 2+ years going through diagnosis, surgery and follow-ups, I have complete confidence in Mr Abulafi's knowledge and skill. He explains what he is doing during examinations, answers my questions clearly without using excessive jargon and takes a holistic view of my health.
I had to wait for a while to have the procedure as there were many patients but staff was friendly and caring. Overall it was a good experience
