A very positive but relaxed and friendly consultation.

James Hahnel is a wizard in surgeons clothing. I had a hip replacement in May 2022 and a knee replacement in Jan 2023 (both under epidural) He is an extremely professional, knowledgeable, warm and empathetic doctor who explained my experience to me in easy terms so I knew what was happening right from my first consultation through to surgery and beyond. His needlework is first class too as I have two very neat (almost invisible) scars I now have two working legs and can stand straight, walk miles and dance again. I wouldn’t hesitate to highly recommend James Hahnel

From the very 1st appointment with Mr Hahnel I felt reassured. He was very clear and decisive on what was required . Before during and after surgery he was informative and caring . Even came in the day after on his day off to see patients. 6 days since operation and improving daily. Thank you .

Explained possible condition & treatment.

James was required to investigate an issue following hip surgery nearly two years earlier undertaken by another consultant. It was subsequently determined after various investigations that there had been a slow-burn infection arising during the original operation. resolution included a temporary hip implacement followed by weeks of Intra venous anti-biotics to remove risk of continued infection and then a permanent hip replacement. Throughout the investigations and subsequent operations James was both professional and caring following up and checking in on a regular basis - including keeping my wife informed of progress and in recovery from the operations. I would commend him for anyone requiring basic or replacement hip surgery. Additionally he had a great support team both with the operations themselves and on the ward at the Nuffield that I stayed in and additionally attended every two days for 6 weeks before the final operation. in patient and subsequent post-op support from the physio team was also first class physio team for post operation recovery. As someone who has worked across the NHS in many and varied organisations this personal experience was outstanding.

Mr Hahnel was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. He was friendly, gave clear explanations as well as a plan and went over and above in my opinion. We didn’t feel rushed and were able to ask lots of questions that he was happy/ able to answer. I am extremely anxious about my son but I feel very confident that he will receive the best care with Mr Hahnel. I would recommend him to anyone.

Mr Hahnel was courteous and quite polite. Listened carefully with the medical condition I was suffering from and then he explained what was required and when the procedure can happen and what complications could happen during and after surgery. . We were also pleased and impressed by the fact that Mr Hahnel wrote information by hand rather than tapping on a computer keyboard which is quite annoying when talking to a doctor and shows he is paying attention to what we were saying.Full marks for that. We also noticed from the copy of letter he sent to my GP, that it was detailed with information we told Mr Hahnel proving he paid attention to what we told him.

From the initial consultation to the operation and then the follow-ups James' was very professional in every aspect. The surgery went very well with no problems at all and am very please with my new hip.
