Mr Erman Melikyan

I am a fellowship-trained Hand and Orthopaedic Surgeon at a centre of excellence, the Pulvertaft Hand Centre in Derby following core training in orthopaedic surgery. I obtained optional international certification by taking the European Diploma in Hand Surgery Examination (FESSH) following fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons. I also studied for a postgraduate degree in Orthopaedic Engineering at the University of Cardiff.

My research within this field gave rise to a number of publications in respected peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Journal of Trauma and Journal of Hand Surgery. I presented at various national and international meetings. I co-authored the Oxford Handbook for Hand and Wrist Surgery (OUP) and the European Textbook of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFFORT). To help hand specialists of the future to develop I founded the Wessex Instructional Hand Course for Surgeons and Therapists which has become a national brand since 2006. I review papers for three medical journals in Hand Surgery and Orthopaedics.

I became Clinical Lecturer at the University of Southampton in 2007 and Associate Professor at an overseas university in 2012. I am the lead consultant for hand and upper limb surgery at Solent NHS Trust.

I take great pleasure from working in a multidisciplinary environment and enjoy practising the fine clinical skills that hand surgery demands to ensure that I provide the best standards of patient care and satisfaction.
