I am a high volume  hip and knee surgeon specialising in a variety of hip and knee replacement surgery and key hole surgery of the knee joint (arthroscopy).

I perform injection of hip , knee and bursa for arthritis and other painful conditions using Ultrasound guidance.

I treat both private and NHS patients at the  New Hall Hospital, Salisbury in Wiltshire.

My clinical interests are as follows:

• Hip replacement/ Total Hip Replacement
• I choose hip replacement components based on patients age, sex, bone quality and functional requirements.
• I utilise the posterior approach to the hip which has  advantage that it does not split the abductor muscle tendon and thus avoids a  limp post operatively and aids in early recovery.
• Posterior approach to hip requires  dividing Piriformis tendon during the hip replacement. I routinely preserve Piriformis tendon.  Piriformis is a key tendon which provides stability to the joint and helps in quicker recovery including return to work and function. Some of the patients can return to work in a few days to weeks depending on what they do.
• Knee replacement, Knee Joint Replacement - I try to follow the patient's native alignment of the knee. I prefer medical congruent/medial stabilised polyethylene tibial insert which  is designed to provide  natural movements and function of the knee.
• Partial Knee Replacement, Unicondylar Knee replacement - Many patient have arthritis confined to only one compartment of the knee where I offer a partial knee replacement.  Partial knee replacement can provide quicker recovery, better range of motion and function.
• I  aim at maintaining/correcting alignment and preserving native Knee joint bone as much as possible.  I routinely perform  knee cap replacement/resurfacing to reduce the risk of knee pain after replacement surgery. I perform patient-specific knee replacements in special cases.
• I perform  knee replacement procedures at the New Hall hospital in Salisbury and the Cherwell Hospital in Banbury, Oxfordshire.
• Trochanteric bursitis/gluteal tendon tear procedures - for intractable pain not responding to injections.
• Knee arthroscopy - I  perform routine knee key-hole surgery for common knee joint conditions.
• Day case joint replacement - Day case joint replacement operations are attracting a lot of interest. Most of his patients after hip and knee replacements would mobilise early and leave the hospital after a single night's stay, whereas some patients will go home on the day of the procedure.
• Enhanced recovery - I possess in-depth knowledge of enhanced recovery programmes for hip and knee replacement. Where possible, he prefers anaesthetic which can reduce blood loss, reduce the risk of blood clots and provide longer post-operative pain relief. I also inject local anaesthetic medicine around your joint for enhanced pain relief. I utilise NICE approved medication within the joint to reduce bleeding after the operation.

Experience:

Mr Choudhary started his surgical training in the UK in 1998 and completed basic and higher surgical training, leading to specialist registration with the GMC. Mr Choudhary now works with independent sector health providers only.
