About Mr Rakesh Choudhary

Mr Rakesh Choudhary is a consultant  hip and knee surgeon.  He performs  hip and knee replacent, key hole surgery of the knee and has  interest in regenerative medicine. He  treats both private and NHS patients. He is availbe for consultation  at the Cherwell Hospital, Banbury in Oxfordshire and New Hall Hospital, Salisbury in Wiltshire.

His clinical interests are as follows:

  • Hip replacement
  • As a hip surgeon he performs uncemented, cemented, hybrid and ceramic total hip replacements with excellent patient satisfaction and clinical results. He utilises the posterior approach to the hip which is used by most of the leading hip surgeons. The posterior approach has the advantage that it does not split the abductor muscle tendon and thus avoids  limp after a hip replacement and aids in early recovery.
  • Mr Rakesh Choudhary, hip replacement surgeon, works at the New Hall hospital in Salisbury and the Cherwell Hospital in Banbury, Oxfordshire.
  • Knee replacement, Knee Joint Replacement
  • Partial Knee Replacement, Unicondylar Knee replacement - Many patient have arthritis confined to only one compartment of the knee where I offer a partial knee replacement. Benefits of uncompartmental knee replacement will be discussed in detail on consultation.
  • Knee Surgery, Knee surgeon
  • He aims at maintaining/correcting alignment and preserving native Knee joint bone as much as possible. There is no agreement among total knee replacement surgeons regarding knee cap replacement. He routinely performs  knee cap replacement/resurfacing to reduce the risk of knee pain after replacement surgery. He performs patient-specific knee replacements in special cases.
  • Mr Rakesh Choudhary performs a knee replacement procedure at the New Hall hospital in Salisbury and the Cherwell Hospital in Banbury, Oxfordshire.
  • Trochanteric bursitis/gluteal tendon tear procedures - for intractable pain not responding to injections. He has an interest in these procedures which he undertakes only after careful consideration.
  • Knee arthroscopy - He performs routine knee key-hole surgery for common knee joint conditions.
  • Day case joint replacement - Day case joint replacement operations are attracting a lot of interest. Most of his patients after hip and knee replacements would mobilise early and leave the hospital after a single night's stay, whereas some patients will go home on the day of the procedure.
  • Enhanced recovery - He possesses in-depth knowledge of enhanced recovery programmes for hip and knee replacement. Where possible, he prefers anaesthetic which can reduce blood loss, reduce the risk of blood clots and provide longer post-operative pain relief. He will also inject local anaesthetic medicine around your joint for enhanced pain relief. He utilises NICE approved medication within the joint to reduce bleeding after the operation.

Experience:

Mr Choudhary started his surgical training in the UK in 1998 and completed basic and higher surgical training, leading to specialist registration with the GMC. Mr Choudhary now works with independent sector health providers only. He is an Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) trainer for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a peer reviewer for the hip and knee research papers for the Bone and Joint Journal (British JBJS).

I knew that I required a hip replacement for last three years. It was affecting my standard of life. I met with you and initially you told me that I should defer surgery as I was only 49. Later you performed the op. Went well . six weeks after I have returned to full activities. I am returning to my desk job in a weeks time. You told me about this new way of doing hip op. Impressed how quick was the recovery.

My hip was an agony before. Now seven weeks after it is back to normal. I am a self empolyed brick layer, would return to work in 3-4 weeks. Thank you for your brilliant job by not cutting my tendons to give me quicker recovery

You explained all before my hip replacement. As the result of that you have taken all the pain away. In six weeks you have given me quality of life. I am free of pain. I had left hip done ten years ago and I feel that the recovery was quicker on the side you operated. You told me this was due to not dividing any hip tendons.

I could only do six steps before needing to sit down. I could not leave house without a mobility scooter and my pain levels were at least 8 at all times. I kept me awake at night. After my both knee replacements within two weeks I did not require scooter, or any walking aids. I was back to walking half a mile within two weeks and returned to my work.

Before the operation my knee was extremely sore. I have partial knee replacement six weeks ago. Now it is just an ache. Otherwise I can walk without any support and have regained full movements.
