Mr Eric Barnes

Mr. Eric Barnes is a highly experienced ophthalmic surgeon based in Newcastle. His primary focus is on treating conditions including cataracts, watery eyes, and eyelid issues such as lumps, tumours, and malpositions. Additionally, he is an expert in performing YAG laser capsulotomy to address post-cataract surgery complications and has extensive experience in administering Botulinum toxin (Botox) for cosmetic purposes.

Mr. Barnes completed his medical degree at St George's Hospital Medical School in 1988. He underwent training at several prestigious institutions, including Chelsea and Westminster, Charing Cross, St Thomas’ Hospital, The Western Eye Hospital, and Moorfields Eye Hospital. His training also included an extended oculoplastic fellowship, which specialised in lacrimal (watery eyes) and eyelid surgery.

In addition to his clinical roles, Mr. Barnes is committed to medical education. Since 2002, he has been responsible for developing the undergraduate ophthalmic course at Newcastle University. Furthermore, he has organised national courses focusing on peri-ocular tumours.

Mr. Barnes is a member of several prominent ophthalmic societies, including the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, UK and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also a founding member of the British Oculoplastic Surgeons Society and hosted their annual conference in Newcastle in 2008.
