Mr Mahmoud Nassar

Mr. Mahmoud Nassar is a highly experienced consultant ophthalmologist with a wealth of knowledge and expertise in both paediatric ophthalmology and cataract and squint surgery. He graduated from medical school in Egypt in 1999, where he ranked in the top 5 of his class with an excellent honours degree. Following his graduation, he completed residency in ophthalmology at Minia University Hospital in 2000.

Mr. Nassar was awarded a Master of Science (MSc) in ophthalmology in 2004 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow (FRCS(Glasg)) in 2008. He then pursued further training and research, earning a PhD in ophthalmology from a joint supervision program between Newcastle University, UK, and Minia University, Egypt, in 2009.

His extensive professional experience spans across both academic and clinical settings, including university hospitals in Egypt, NHS Scotland, and England, as well as independent sectors in both regions. Currently, Mr. Nassar works as a consultant ophthalmologist at the Newcastle Eye Centre, RVI, where he covers high-volume cataract surgery lists across England and Scotland.

In addition to his clinical role, Mr. Nassar is an academic senior lecturer in ophthalmology at the Faculty of Medicine, Minia University, and an honorary associate lecturer at Newcastle University. His sub-specialty interests include paediatric ophthalmology, paediatric and adult cataract surgery, and squint surgery, with expertise in administering Botox injections to extraocular muscles for the treatment of adult squint.

His research interests focus on paediatric ophthalmology, ocular trauma, strabismus, and retinopathy of prematurity. Mr. Nassar is a member of the Consultant Eye Surgeons Partnership (CESP).
