Mr Christopher Darby

Mr Christopher Darby has been an experienced Consultant Vascular Surgeon since 1997, with a wide range of expertise. His NHS practice is at a major national centre of excellence, namely the John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford. There he carries out the same profile of outpatient and surgery procedures as in his private practice. This is all audited and assessed by annual appraisal and registration with the General Medical Council.

In the private sector he specialises in Varicose veins in particular. Unusually, as he does his own venous duplex scanning in the clinic,  the entire episode can be performed as one stop visit saving time and money. Others might be ordering a separate scan and a follow up clinic to discuss the result.

Mr Darby's clinical outcomes can be searched where it can be seen that he has a very low mortality for infra-renal aortic aneurysm, open and endovascular and a 0% stroke rate with carotid endarterectomy.

Mr Darby is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Oxford in recognition of his teaching and research.

His private practice is carried out in the largest Nuffield Health site, the Manor Hospital Oxford. This is adjacent to the John Radcliffe Hospital. The Manor private hospital has a high-dependency unit (HDU) and intensive therapy unit (ITU) beds as required. Hence a much extended repertoire of surgical procedures can be carried out. The most complex vascular interventions may be carried out at the John Radcliffe.

As well as the more normal repertoire of vascular surgery Mr Darby specialises in collaborative work with the surgeons for Sarcoma, melanoma and benign and malignant spine problems.

Outside the hospital, Mr Darby is an expedition leader and medical advisor to a UK trekking and climbing company, Mountain Kingdoms.
