Mr Christian Macutkiewicz

I am a Consultant General, Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary (HPB) and Hernia Surgeon at Manchester Royal Infirmary and Director of The Gallstone Clinic and Hernia Clinic. I am the President of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland. My private rooms are at Spire Manchester Hospital.

I graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Biochemistry and then went on to graduate with Honours in Medicine from the University of Manchester in 2000. I completed a period of research and was awarded a Doctorate of Medicine for my thesis in 2008. I completed my higher surgical training in the North Western Deanery and have worked in London, Cambridge, Nottingham and Manchester before taking up a Consultant position at St James's University Hospital in Leeds where I practiced advanced pancreatic, gallbladder and bile duct surgery for 5 years.

I returned to Manchester in August 2018 to take up a Consultant post at Manchester University Hospitals Foundation Trust. I provide elective and emergency general surgery and specialise in gallstone disease, the difficult gallbladder and abdominal wall hernias, especially laparoscopic (keyhole) inguinal hernias.

I have a great interest in day-case gallbladder surgery and improving patient satisfaction whilst in hospital. My other passion is Medical Education; I thoroughly enjoy training the doctors of tomorrow and am also involved in change management and quality improvement projects to help shape the NHS of the future.

Out of the workplace I enjoy cooking, travel, fine wine and racket sports. I have recently rekindled my enjoyment of golf and hope to improve my handicap.
