About

I am a London fellowship trained consultant neurosurgeon and spine surgeon.

Back pain and spine care

As a spine surgeon I treat patients with back pain, degenerative spine and disc disease, tumours, adult degenerative deformity, fractures, sciatica, neck and arm pain. I also have an interest in minimally invasive surgery for the treatment of the above disorders as well as revision treatment. My goal is to find the least invasive treatment that offers the longest lasting result by working in a network of other healthcare professionals. Surgery can be avoided for most patients.

Neurosurgery

As a neurosurgeon my practice is focused on the management of vascular disorders of the brain and spine including aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVM's), dural arteriovenous fistula (dAVF), cavernoma and Moyamoya disease.

Background

I am a substantive NHS Consultant Neurosurgeon at Queens Hospital, Greater London, which is one of the two main spinal hubs for The North East London and Essex spinal network. I am a member of the team of Complex spine surgeons in this unit.

For neurovascular surgery, I am the lead clinician for the service covering the whole catchment population of North East London and Essex.

Prior to being appointed as a consultant, I undertook a unique combined neurosurgical and orthopaedic fellowship in spine surgery at St Georges Hospital acquiring a broader range of skills and techniques from both disciplines.

Thereafter I completed a Royal College of Surgeons accredited fellowship in neurovascular surgery at Kings College hospital. I have recently undergone additional training in cerebral bypass surgery at the world renowned Barrow Neurological Institute, Phoenix, Arizona, USA, for the treatment of Moyamoya disease.

After the completion of my basic surgical training in Scotland and becoming a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, I gained further experience in neurosurgery in Cambridge. Thereafter I completed an MD research degree in imaging of the brain and spine at University College London and the National Hospital for neurology and Neurosurgery, Queens Square, London, submitting my thesis with peer reviewed publications.

I then commenced higher neurosurgery training on the prestigious South Thames rotation, which includes Kings College Hospital and St Georges Hospital, where I achieved the award of Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in neurosurgery at completion of my training.
