Mr. Alexander Watson is a Consultant
Vascular & Endovascular Surgeon with over 20 years of specialist experience
in the diagnosis and treatment of varicose veins and vascular conditions. He prides
himself in being a friendly, open and
approachable surgeon who treats patients how he himself would want to be
treated whilst also achieving the best outcomes possible. Professional but down
to earth, he avoids complicated medical jargon ensuring patients understand
their condition and the treatment options available to them.
Alex specialises in minimally invasive
varicose vein treatments, including endovenous laser ablation (EVLA),
radiofrequency ablation RFA), foam sclerotherapy and microsurgical phlebectomy.
His consultations always include a comprehensive duplex ultrasound scan,
enabling him to explain your condition clearly and create a bespoke,
evidence‑based treatment plan tailored to your symptoms, lifestyle and cosmetic
goals.
Unlike many national chain vein clinics
where treatment pathways can be generic or fragmented, Alex provides continuity
of care from first consultation to post‑procedure follow‑up, ensuring every
patient receives personalised, high‑quality care.
All treatments are offered on a ‘walk‑in,
walk‑out’ basis using the latest, state‑of‑the‑art minimally invasive
techniques. Most procedures take around one hour, require only local
anaesthetic, and allow patients to return to work or normal activities the next
day with minimal discomfort or downtime.
NHS Expertise with Private‑Sector
Accessibility
Alex runs a busy NHS practice at both
Dorset County Hospital and Royal Bournemouth Hospital, allowing his private
patients to benefit from the extensive experience, governance and
multidisciplinary support of the wider NHS vascular network. His dual practice
also enables a seamless integration of private and NHS care when required.
Living and working locally, Alex is known
for being easily contactable, responsive and highly supportive both before and
after treatment. His patient‑centred approach is reflected in his excellent
reviews on Doctify.

the NHS. Excellent service”

explained perfectly and executed with the utmost professionalism”
Training & Background
Alex trained at St George’s Hospital,
London, before completing surgical training in Kent. He undertook vascular
research at Northwick Park Hospital, exploring reperfusion injury following
aortic aneurysm repair. His higher vascular and endovascular training took
place in the Southwest of England.
He then completed a prestigious Senior
Vascular & Endovascular Fellowship at the nationally renowned Freeman
Hospital Vascular Unit in Newcastle, where he developed his specialist interest
in endovenous therapies. He was subsequently invited to take up a consultant
position within the unit.
In 2013, Alex returned to Dorset with his
family to join the Dorset & Wiltshire Vascular Network as a Consultant
Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon at Dorset County Hospital.
Alongside colleague James Metcalfe, he
co‑founded the Dorset County Vascular Group, working with radiologists and

Mr Alexander Watson is professional, friendly, and reassuring with patients. He provides clear explanations, ensuring patients understand their conditions and treatment options. Many patients praise his expertise in procedures for varicose veins, such as Endovenous Radiofrequency Ablation and Foam Sclerotherapy, reporting comfortable experiences and excellent results. Patients seek his care for conditions like varicose veins and associated painful legs.
Mr Watson discussed everything thoroughly. He made sure I understood what he was going to do and what I would expect before undertaking the procedure. Alex was very calm, professional and listened to me, answering any concerns or questions I had throughout the procedure. Alex made you feel at ease not only that but would make you laugh even when I was in discomfort (for a short time)
I couldn’t be happier with the treatment I received from Dr Watson. From my first appointment, they were professional, friendly, and took the time to explain everything clearly, which immediately put me at ease. The treatment has worked really well, and I’ve noticed a significant improvement. Throughout the process, Dr Watson was thorough, attentive, and genuinely cared about achieving the best possible outcome for me. I never felt rushed, and any questions I had were answered with patience and expertise. Thank you so much for everything!
Initial consultation for varicose veins July 2026. I was very impressed with Alexander Watson’s warm and pleasant manner. I felt that he really took the time during the scan of my veins to explain the physiology of my leg’s venous system, treatment options were also explained clearly. Consequently the logic and preferred plan for my treatment was clear to me. Alexander was happy to answer questions and explain in more detail anything I needed clarifying. I left the consultation reassured and confident in making an informed choice regarding how to progress with treatment of my varicose veins Thank you
I recently had a vein procedure and was very impressed with the entire experience. From the initial consultation to the treatment itself, the staff were professional, friendly, and made me feel comfortable every step of the way. The procedure was explained clearly, and any questions I had were answered with patience and care. The treatment went smoothly, and I felt well looked after throughout. The follow-up care was also excellent, giving me confidence during my recovery. I'm already noticing a positive difference and would happily recommend this clinic to anyone considering vein treatment. Thank you to the whole team for your excellent care and professionalism
I very much appreciate Mr. Watson's time and courtesy. He made me feel at ease from the onset with full explanation of my condition and possible outcomes.
The best explanation of my issue I have had. I went away feeling more confident about the planned treatment. Many thanks to Mr. Watson
Very professional made me feel at ease explaining everything in a way that I could understand and putting any fears that I had to bed
Having recently had an MRI scan for a separate lumber spine issue and attending the consultant for the results I was, to be honest, shocked to be advised that the MRI also showed me to have an enlarged Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA). The consultant suggested an early meet with a vascular surgeon and I informed him that I wished to be seen by Mr Watson. This was quickly arranged. Having no idea what an AAA was I overnight became a ‘Google expert’ and to be fair it frightened the life out of me. Meeting Mr Watson put many of my concerns to rights. He was friendly, approachable and spoke in terms I understood. I now know what the immediate future might hold and although it could be serious, feel confident that my choice of Mr Watson was a good one.
