About Mr Benjamin Stubbs
Mr Benjamin Stubbs is a highly experienced Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon with specialist expertise in minimally invasive surgery, bowel cancer, and inflammatory bowel disease. He completed his medical degree at St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Hospital Medical School before entering a surgical training rotation, during which he achieved his MRCS and CCBST qualifications. His early training included time at the Royal Marsden Hospital, where he developed a strong interest in the surgical management of cancer.
Following this, Mr Stubbs undertook a period of research at University College London, studying neo-angiogenesis — the development of new blood vessels within cancer cells. His work resulted in a Master’s degree in Surgical Sciences, awarded with distinction for his research into cancer and its environmental influences. He went on to complete higher surgical training in London, gaining Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons.
To further refine his subspecialist skills, Mr Stubbs completed a Fellowship at University College London Hospital, focusing on laparoscopic surgery and the surgical management of bowel cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. He then joined Dorset County Hospital as a Consultant, where he has since taken on key leadership roles including Clinical Director of Surgery. He also serves as College Tutor to the Royal College of Surgeons of England and represents Dorset County Hospital on the Wessex Deanery Specialist Advisory Committee for higher surgical training.
In his private practice at The Winterbourne Hospital in Dorchester, Mr Stubbs provides expert consultation and treatment across a wide range of colorectal and general surgical conditions. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had a really positive experience at Winterbourne Hospital after being referred through my insurer to see Mr Benjamin Stubbs. On arrival, there weren’t any parking spaces immediately available, but I only had to wait a few moments before a space became available. The hospital itself is lovely — modern, airy and welcoming, with a really pleasant reception area. The receptionist was also absolutely delightful. After registering and completing a very brief form, I barely had time to sit down before Mr Stubbs came out to greet me. He introduced himself, shook my hand and immediately put me at ease. He was extremely polite, calm and concise, and I was particularly impressed that he was already familiar with the details of my case, which showed that he had taken the time to read my file before seeing me. He listened carefully to my symptoms, examined me thoroughly and was able to explain the next steps clearly and promptly. He arranged for the appropriate imaging to be carried out and for me to return once I have had my scans so we can discuss the results. The whole appointment was incredibly efficient and took around 20 minutes, yet I never felt rushed or that anything had been overlooked. From the reception staff to Mr Stubbs himself, the whole experience was professional, friendly and reassuring. I appreciate that private healthcare is designed to provide a more streamlined experience, but the level of care and efficiency I received genuinely stood out. A very positive experience and I would have no hesitation in recommending Mr Stubbs and Winterbourne Hospital.
