About Mr Fergus Noble

Mr Fergus Noble is an experienced Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and General Surgeon with a reputation for clinical excellence and patient-centred care. He brings extensive surgical expertise, offering advanced treatment options tailored to each individual’s needs. He is a Consultant in Upper Gastrointestinal and General Surgery at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, and the clinical service lead for Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery, his special interests include the following:

  • Barrett’s Oesophagus, Oesophageal and stomach cancers
  • Achalasia, Hiatal and antireflux surgery
  • Robotic and minimally invasive surgery
  • Therapeutic endoscopy
  • Gallstone management
  • Minimally invasive hernia surgery
  • Abdominal pain

Known for a meticulous approach and clear communication, Mr Noble works closely with each patient to ensure they are informed, confident and fully supported throughout their care.

Trained at St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London Medical School, followed by surgical training in London and Wessex, including a PhD researching immunotherapy and cancer vaccines, and culminating in a prestigious international fellowship at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia, Mr Noble stays at the forefront of surgical innovation.

Most recently, Mr Noble has supported the introduction of robotic oesophageal and gastric surgery at the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. He has also introduced new techniques for anti-reflux surgery into his practice, including the Refluxstop and Linx procedure. Whether managing routine procedures or complex surgical challenges, combining cutting-edge techniques with a commitment to safety, comfort, and optimal recovery ensures that every patient receives the best care to suit their individual needs.

Surgical outcomes are assessed both within and externally to the hospitals and can be reviewed via the National Oesophagogastric Audit and the National Hiatal Registry. Further authored work can be found here in book chapters and peer-reviewed publications.

Philosophy of care: “I believe that whilst Surgery undoubtedly requires technical skill, delivering great care is more than just a procedure. It’s about treating each patient as an individual, building trust and being transparent about options available, and exploring the best treatment plan for you. I’m here to listen to your concerns, answer your questions on the treatments available, and work with you to deliver care that enables you to live a healthier and happier life”

I had an excellent experience with Mr. Noble and his team. He explored all treatment options with me ahead of us deciding on a course of action and remained available for any and all questions / concerns during my post-op recovery period. Very pleased with the outcome!
