Mr Ajay Nigam

Mr Ajay Nigam is a highly respected Consultant ENT and Head & Neck Surgeon with extensive experience in managing complex ear, nose and throat conditions. He was appointed as a Consultant ENT and Head & Neck Surgeon at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 1996 and also holds an Honorary Consultant Surgeon post at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

He undertook his specialist ENT training in Birmingham, Newcastle and Cambridge, developing broad expertise across the full spectrum of ENT and head and neck surgery. Mr Nigam was awarded the prestigious TWJ Fellowship, which enabled him to undertake advanced specialist training at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, one of the world’s leading academic centres. He is currently the Chairman of the Head & Neck Cancer Network Site Specific Group for Lancashire and South Cumbria. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to head and neck cancer care, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Swallows Charity and has also featured in the BBC television series Blackpool Medics.

Mr Nigam’s clinical interests include head and neck cancer surgery, laryngology, thyroid surgery, rhinology and sleep-related breathing disorders. He has developed particular expertise in balloon sinuplasty, functional endoscopic sinus surgery and minimally invasive treatments for snoring. His practice also encompasses paediatric ENT, sinus disease and sinusitis, ear infections, throat conditions and selected cosmetic procedures such as rhinoplasty.

Alongside his NHS work, Mr Nigam sees patients privately at The Lancashire Clinic, Garstang Clinic and Spire Fylde Coast Hospital.

He has a strong academic and research background, with particular interests in head and neck oncology and the antibacterial properties of BIPP. He completed the FRCSEd in General Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1985, followed by the FRCSEng in ENT at the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1992, and the FRCSEd in ENT in the same year.
