Dr Matthew Browning

Dr Matthew Browning is a dedicated General Surgeon specialising in benign upper gastrointestinal (GI) and laparoscopic surgery. He is highly committed to providing patient-centred, high-quality surgical care, focusing on minimally invasive techniques that promote faster recovery and optimal clinical outcomes. His clinical practice encompasses a broad range of general surgical procedures, with a particular focus on the management of complex gallbladder and biliary conditions.

With a strong interest in advanced biliary interventions, Dr Browning specialises in laparoscopic cholecystectomy and laparoscopic common bile duct exploration. He is actively involved in utilising cutting-edge diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, including laparoscopic intraoperative ultrasound and intraoperative lithotripsy for the precise detection and fragmentation of bile duct stones. Additionally, his expertise extends to hiatal surgery, including anti-reflux procedures and hiatus hernia repairs, guided by detailed oesophageal physiology studies. He also performs splenectomies for haematological disorders and is skilled in managing emergency general surgical presentations.

Dr Browning completed his medical education at Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry, where he developed his foundational passion for surgical excellence. As a Specialty Registrar, he remains deeply engaged in clinical research, surgical education, and professional representation. He serves as the Benign Lead for the Roux Group, the trainee section of the Association of Upper GI Surgeons, and is the Trainee Representative for South England within the British Benign Upper GI Surgical Society.
