Dr Matko Marlais

Dr Matko Marlais is a Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist and Specialty Lead for Paediatric Nephrology at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. Matko looks after children with all forms of kidney disease as attending paediatric nephrologist, and his areas of clinical sub-specialty expertise include antenatal nephrology, infant chronic kidney disease, cystic kidney disease and glomerulonephritis.

Matko is Honorary Associate Professor at the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health. His research focuses on cystic kidney disease and glomerulonephritis, and he has published several large international collaborative studies in these fields. Matko is currently UK chief investigator for two clinical trials. Matko has also co-authored multiple national and international guidelines in on cystic kidney disease and glomerulonephritis. Matko has expertise in clinical guideline methodology and was national guideline lead for the British Association for Paediatric Nephrology from 2019-2023.

Matko has an Executive Master's degree in medical leadership, alongside his clinical work he is Associate Medical Director at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. In this role Matko is responsible for clinical governance and quality across the organisation. Matko is an elected council member of the European Society of Paediatric Nephrology (ESPN).
