Mr Markus Baker

Mr Markus Baker is a highly experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee conditions. With over eight years as a consultant and a surgical career spanning more than 8,000 procedures, he is an expert in hip and knee replacements, reconstructions, and keyhole (arthroscopic) surgeries.

He has a particular interest in young adult hip problems and soft tissue-sparing hip replacements, which minimise blood loss, reduce pain, and promote faster recovery. His expertise includes treating arthritis, hip dysplasia, avascular necrosis (a condition where bone tissue dies due to lack of blood supply), and joint problems caused by trauma. He also performs arthroscopic surgery for meniscal (knee cartilage) and labral (hip cartilage) tears, ligament and tendon injuries, and cartilage damage.

Mr Baker is the Surgical Director at the South West London Orthopaedic Centre, the largest NHS orthopaedic treatment centre in the UK and one of the largest in Europe. He is deeply committed to patient safety, innovation, and improving surgical techniques to enhance recovery and patient satisfaction.

As Directorate Clinical Lead for Quality and Safety in Planned Care, he plays a key role in advancing surgical and anaesthetic practices, ensuring the highest standards of patient care.
