Dr Mark Philip Cassar

Dr Mark Philip Cassar is a Consultant Cardiologist specialising in advanced cardiac imaging. His practice focuses on the assessment and management of heart conditions using contemporary diagnostic techniques, with particular expertise in echocardiography, cardiac MRI and cardiac CT.

He completed his cardiology training at Oxford University Hospitals, where he also undertook a PhD in cardiac imaging, researching the effects of viral infections on the heart. He graduated in medicine from the University of Malta. He holds the highest level of accreditation in echocardiography, cardiac MRI and cardiac CT, a combination held by a small number of cardiologists in the UK, allowing him to select, perform and interpret imaging studies appropriate to each clinical presentation.

Dr Cassar assesses patients with a wide range of cardiovascular conditions, including chest pain and coronary artery disease, heart valve disease, heart failure and cardiomyopathies, cardiac arrhythmias, hypertension, hyperlipidaemia, and cardiovascular risk assessment and prevention. Consultations typically include a detailed clinical history, examination and discussion of appropriate investigations. Where indicated, echocardiography may be performed on the same day, with further imaging arranged as required.

In addition to clinical practice, Dr Cassar holds several national and international professional roles. He is an Executive Committee Member of the British Society of Cardiovascular Imaging, a Taskforce and Leadership Working Group Member of the British Society of Echocardiography, a National Echocardiography Examiner, and the UK echocardiography representative to the European Society of Cardiology.

He has published extensively in peer-reviewed medical journals, including The Lancet, and is actively involved in cardiovascular research and education. His work integrates clinical cardiology with advanced imaging to support accurate diagnosis, risk assessment and management planning.
